Training, view exchange with international students at GAU : We want to make GAU a global hub for higher education : VC

A training and exchange meeting titled “Green Campus, Global Minds: International Students Shaping the Future of GAU” was held with international students studying at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU).

The program was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of GAU and held on Thursday noon at the IQAC Seminar Room.

International students from Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Nepal, studying at the BS, MS, and PhD levels at GAU, participated in the event.

Among the speakers were Prof Dr. G.K.M. Mostafizur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Gazipur Agricultural University; Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Gazipur; Prof Dr. Md. Saiful Islam Afrad, Treasurer; Prof Dr. Mohammad Saiful Alam, Proctor; Prof Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain, Director of International Affairs; and Professor Dr. Mohammad Shafiqul Alam, Associate Director.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Nasrin Akter Ivy, Director of IQAC. Professor Dr. Md. Mashiul Islam, Director of Research; Md. Abdullah Mridha, Registrar; M. Rakibul Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT), Gazipur; and Md. Arif Hossain, Assistant Commissioner (Media and Research Cell), were also present.

At the beginning of the program, a visual documentary titled “Discovering GAU”, highlighting the university’s historical journey and achievements, was screened. This was followed by an introduction session for international students from different countries.

Prof Dr. Mohammad Sharif Raihan, Director of Student Welfare, delivered the opening remarks, welcoming the international students. Later, welcome mementos were presented to the international students.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr GKM. Mostafizur Rahman said, “We want to develop ‘Global Minds’ among international students. But before that, we want to transform GAU into a ‘Global Hub’ for higher education for international students.”

He further said that the university wants to create an environment where students from different parts of the world can come to GAU and pursue higher education in a safe, comfortable, and dignified environment.

At one stage of the discussion, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan spoke on “Green GAU: A Peaceful, Clean and Pollution-Free Campus.” He said that the Gazipur District Administration and GAU want to work together to make Gazipur greener, more livable, and pollution-free.

An open discussion and question-and-answer session was subsequently held between the guests and international students.
