JU Government and Politics alumni honours Pro-VC Shamsul Alam Selim

The Government and Politics Alumni Association of Jahangirnagar University (JU) organized a reception on Friday to honor Professor Md. Shamsul Alam Selim following his recent appointment as the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
The event, held at 4:00 PM in the seminar room of the university auditorium, brought together a distinguished gathering of former and current students, faculty members, and alumni of the department. Professor Shamsul Alam Selim, who currently serves as the president of the Government and Politics Alumni Association, was warmly congratulated by attendees who shared personal reflections on his long-standing commitment to the department and the university.
During the ceremony, Sabina Easmin, convener of the reception committee and a graduate senate member, delivered a heartfelt tribute, describing Professor Selim as a mentor and guardian rather than just a teacher. She noted that during various campus movements and challenges, he consistently stood by students and alumni with courage, affection, and humanity. Sabina expressed her personal gratitude for his unwavering support during difficult times, stating that the reception was a sincere manifestation of the deep respect and affection held by the entire community. She emphasized that his integrity and dedication continue to be a source of inspiration for all his former students.
In his address to the audience, Professor Selim expressed deep humility, stating that he was overwhelmed by the immense love and respect shown to him. He credited his teachers, colleagues, and students for their roles in his personal and professional growth. He remarked that it was within the Department of Government and Politics that he learned the values of standing against injustice, upholding the truth, and working with unwavering integrity.
Regarding his new administrative responsibility, Professor Selim viewed the appointment not as a personal accolade, but as a reflection of the trust and affection of the university community. He pledged to work toward establishing good governance and fostering a positive academic environment, while also seeking continued cooperation from all stakeholders to make the activities of the alumni association more dynamic and impactful.
The event was attended by several notable figures, including former department teachers Professor Nasim Akter Hossain and Professor Md. Abdul Mannan. Other attendees included faculty members, Mohammad Mohiuddin Sumon, Acting Director of the university’s Public Relations Office; Md. Azmal Amin Tutul, Deputy Director of the Physical Education Office and President of the Officers’ Association; and Deputy Registrar Md. Abdur Rahman Babul.
