"Bangladesh Public University Progatishil Shikkhok Samaj ' expressed deep concern, resentment, and distress over the temporary suspension of three Dhaka University (DU) teachers and the formation of a tribunal against them.

The organization stated that such administrative actions, taken in violation of regulations, pose a serious threat to the democratic and academic environment of Dhaka University.

This concern was voiced in a protest statement issued on Tuesday (September 1) signed by Prof Dr. Purbashi Islam, Joint General Secretary of the organization.

According to the statement, the suspended teachers are Dr. M. Ahiduzzaman (President of the organization), Prof Dr. Md. Mashiur Rahman of the Sociology Department, and Prof Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Litu of the Institute of Education and Research. They were temporarily suspended and placed under tribunal proceedings based on allegations of opposing the July movement.

The teachers' society alleged that despite provisions allowing the accused or their representative to cross-examine in the university inquiry committee, Professor Dr. M. Ahiduzzaman was repeatedly denied this opportunity despite written requests.

Moreover submitting the inquiry report to the Syndicate without the signature of the accused's representative was termed "unfortunate" and "contrary to justice".

The statement further highlighted that despite Professor Ahiduzzaman presenting data and evidence to prove the allegations false, penal action was taken against him. The organization termed this a predetermined decision, an act of political vengeance, and the continuation of a culture suppressing dissenting voices, which creates an atmosphere of fear across universities—inconsistent with the tradition and dignity of Dhaka University.

Urging the DU administration, the statement demanded a fair, transparent, and neutral review of the matter in accordance with university laws, ensuring self-defense opportunities in the presence of the accused teachers' representatives prior to submitting final investigation reports.

It stressed that the administration must ensure educators supporting liberation ideology are not silenced due to fear of administrative harassment or punishment.
