Jamaat Activist Salahuddin Dies from Injuries Sustained in Saghata Attack Jamaat Leaders Demand Exemplary Punishment for Those Involved

Md. Salahuddin (27), a youth wing activist of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and a resident of Bonarpara in Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha, passed away in Dhaka at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday while undergoing treatment (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un). He was the youngest son of Maulana Shamsul Islam Dudu, an Executive Member of the Saghata Upazila Workers Welfare Federation.
According to family sources, Salahuddin had been receiving treatment at Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka for nearly two months after sustaining serious injuries in an attack that took place on June 21. He breathed his last while under medical care. His funeral prayer (Janaza) was scheduled to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Kazi Azhar Ali High School ground in Bonarpara.
Leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami expressed deep sorrow over his death. Among those who conveyed condolences were Central Majlis-e-Shura Member and Gaibandha District Ameer Md. Abdul Karim, Freedom Fighter Md. Abdul Warech, Professor Md. Majedur Rahman, Maulana Nazrul Islam Lebu, Acting District Secretary Syed Rokonuzzaman, Assistant District Secretary and Gaibandha Municipality mayoral candidate Md. Faisal Kabir Rana, along with other district leaders.
In a statement, the leaders strongly condemned the incident and said, “We have lost a dedicated worker. May Almighty Allah forgive him, accept his righteous deeds, grant him Jannatul Ferdous, and give his family the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss.”
The leaders also demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and exemplary punishment for all individuals involved in the killing.
According to party sources, the incident originated from tensions surrounding the election of the president and the formation of a committee at Kochua Government Primary School in Saghata Upazila on June 21. Salahuddin was seriously injured during the ensuing violence. In the same incident, Bonarpara Union Islami Chhatra Shibir President Md. Saifullah Bari (24) was killed, the party claimed.
