The PBI. has re-arrested retired army man Hafizur Rahman for failing to surrender within the stipulated time after the High Court suspended his bail in the much-discussed Sohagi Jahan Tonu murder case of Cumilla .
He was arrested from his home in Keraniganj, Dhaka on Saturday. The PBI said that this step has been taken to prevent the accused from escaping and to implement the instructions of the Appellate Division Chamber Court. The process of sending him to the Cumilla court is underway.
Hafizur Rahman was released from the Cumilla Central Jail on August 4 after receiving bail from the High Court on August 2. Later, the state filed a leave to appeal seeking a stay on the bail order. In view of this, on August 6, Appellate Division Chamber Justice Md. Rezaul Haque's court suspended the High Court bail till August 9 and ordered Hafizur Rahman to surrender within 24 hours. If he did not surrender as per the order, the law enforcement agencies were ordered to arrest him.
However, Hafizur Rahman did not surrender by the time set by the court, that is, by the evening of Friday (August 7), said Cumilla Court Police Inspector Sadequr Rahman and Cumilla Central Jail Senior Jail Superintendent Shah Alam Khan.
