State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said that Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) ) is ahead of other city corporations in the country in waste management, cleanliness drive, dengue prevention and canal restoration activities. The way SCIC is working to build a clean city is highly commendable.

The State Minister said these while inspecting the modern waste management activities of CSIC in Lalmatia, South Surma Upazila of Sylhet on Thursday.

He said that as part of CSIC's modern waste management plan, the country's first biodrying plant is being set up in Sylhet. If this advanced technology-based plant is launched, a new horizon will be opened in the city's waste management. At the same time, it will also play an important role in producing alternative energy from waste and developing a circular economy.

Biodrying technology uses the natural metabolic heat of microorganisms and controlled airflow to rapidly remove excess moisture from household waste, sewage sludge, and agricultural waste. This makes the waste suitable for conversion into high-temperature alternative fuel. This technology is very effective for high-moisture waste like in Bangladesh, said the concerned people.

Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury was present at the time, Sylhet 3 constituency MP M. A. Malik, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, Local Government Division Joint Secretary Md. Rabiul Islam, CCIC Waste Management Division Consultant Md. Shahin Ahmed Khan, CCIC Secretary Md. Ashiq Noor, Chief Engineer (Acting) Md. Ali Akbar, Executive Engineer (Mechanical) Lt. Col. (Retd.) Mohammad Ullah, Executive Engineer (Electrical) Joydev Biswas, senior officials of CCIC and media personnel were present.

During tThe State Minister toured the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) of CSIC and was informed about the progress of setting up the country's first biodrying plant. During this time, SCC CRO Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarkar and Chief Waste Management Officer Lt. Col. (Retd) Mohammad Eklim Abdin presented various aspects of modern waste management activities, STS and the under-construction biodrying plant to the State Minister.
