Intellectual property powerful tool in knowledge-based economy: BRUR VC

Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali, Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, said that intellectual property is a bridge between theory and reality in universities and research institutions. Intellectual property is essential for research fields developed in academia such as medicine, agricultural innovation, educational equipment or digital technology. He said that intellectual property is a powerful tool in this era of knowledge-based economy.
The Vice Chancellor made these remarks in his speech as the chief guest at a seminar organized on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day 2025 in the virtual classroom of Academic Building-2 this Sunday morning . The Vice Chancellor said that in addition to protecting our own intellectual property, we must work to build a world where creativity develops responsibly, inclusively and sustainably. He further said that in addition to encouraging innovation, we must ensure fair access and ensure the protection of the creations of young and women innovators and marginalized communities. However, we must be aware that the intellectual property structure should never become an obstacle. Rather, it should open the way for innovation. The seminar was chaired by Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Director Prof Dr. Md. Tajul Islam and was addressed as special guests by the Dean of the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences Prof Dr. Md. Emdadul Haque and Registrar Dr. Md. Harun-or Rashid. The seminar organized by IQAC on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day was addressed as the keynote speaker by Pro-Vice Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology Prof Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam who presented an article on intellectual property. Teachers from various departments participated in the seminar.Earlier in the morning, a rally was organized led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali to mark the Day.
