
No alternative to ‘Intellectual Property’ to protect innovation: SUST VC

The Vice Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Prof Dr. A. M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury, emphasized, "In today's world, research and innovation are vital for sustainable development. To safeguard these innovations, protecting intellectual property is essential. We must raise awareness and strengthen efforts around intellectual property rights.
Our students should be more engaged in research, and we must foster a culture that encourages innovative thinking." He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized at the ‘World Intellectual Property Day-2025’ celebration at the university’s mini auditorium on Saturday at 11 am.
The seminar was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). It was presided over by IQAC Director Prof Dr. Salma Akhtar. At the program, SUST Treasurer Prof Dr. Md. Ismail Hossain attended as the special guest, while Prof Dr. Md. Abul Hasnat delivered the keynote address.
The technical session featured insightful discussions led by Prof Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Director of the Research Center, and Prof Dr. Md. Salatul Islam Majumder, who served as resource persons. The seminar was skillfully moderated by Prof Dr. Md. Abu Hayat Mithu, Additional Director of IQAC, and Prof Dr. Md. Abdul Hamid. Faculty members, students, officers, and staff from various departments of the university participated in the event. Earlier in the day, a rally was organized at 10 a.m. in front of the Central Library building to commemorate the occasion. The rally marched through key roads of the campus and concluded in front of Academic Building 'A'.
