Former LGED Chief Engineer Shahidul Hasan appointed Secretary of Local Govt Division

In a significant move to strengthen administrative leadership, the Government has appointed former Chief Engineer Md. Shahidul Hasan as the Secretary of the Local Government Division of the LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry on a contractual basis.
The Ministry of Public Administration has issued gazette notification on Tuesday (March 3), confirming the appointment of the seasoned engineer, who is widely regarded as a pioneer in rural infrastructure development in Bangladesh.
According to the notification issued under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018, Mr. Hasan will serve in the position for a one-year term starting from his date of joining.
As per the requirements for such high-level contractual roles, he must sever all existing professional, business, or organizational ties with both public and private entities before assuming office.The appointment comes following the recent attachment of the former Local Government Secretary, Md. Rezaul Makshud Zahedi, to the Ministry of Public Administration as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on March 1.Hailing from Faridpur, Engineer Shahidul Hasan brings decades of technical and administrative expertise to the ministry.He previously served as the Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and took retirement on December 11, 2000.
His started his career
as an Executive Engineer in the 'Works Program Wing'.in 1977.He was promoted to Superintending Engineer in 1992.He was elevated to Additional Chief Engineer in 1999.Mr Hasan completed his graduation in Civil Engineering in 1975, followed by advanced professional training in the United Kingdom and the United States.
For his "outstanding contributions to rural infrastructure," Mr. Hasan has been honoured with several prestigious accolades, including the Jasim Gold Medal, the Shreegayan Atish Dipankar Gold Medal and Journalist Monazatuddin Gold Medal.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
His appointment has widely been acclaimed in his hometown of Faridpur as well as in the country.
Leaders of various social, cultural, and engineering organizations, including Faridpur Press Club President Kabirul Islam Siddique and General Secretary Mahbub Hossain Pial, extended their heartfelt congratulations, describing him as a "pride of Faridpur" and a "pioneer of development."
