On-duty Ansar personnel thwarted an auto-rickshaw hijacking attempt in front of the Gopalpur Upazila Health Complex in Tangail on Saturday after two perpetrators drugged the driver into unconsciousness.
The incident occurred around 11:00 AM when the auto-rickshaw driver arrived at the health complex seeking medical care. Feeling unwell upon arrival, two passengers riding in the auto-rickshaw offered him water spiked with a sedative. Shortly after drinking it, the driver collapsed onto the ground unconscious.
Taking advantage of his condition, the two individuals attempted to flee with the vehicle. Noticing the suspicious movement, the vigilant Ansar team deployed at the hospital gave immediate chase. Facing rapid intervention, the hijackers abandoned the auto-rickshaw and fled the scene.
Ansar members recovered the vehicle and rushed the unconscious driver inside the health complex for emergency medical treatment. Once the driver partially recovered, his family was contacted using phone details provided by him.
Following proper verification, the recovered auto-rickshaw was handed over to his brother, Johirul Islam, who rushed to the hospital. The victim's family expressed deep gratitude to the Ansar members for their prompt action and humane assistance.
