Following an anti-discrimination movement, BNP and its affiliated organizations have been embroiled in a conflict over control of the brick, sand, and cement business in the industrial area of Fatullah, Narayanganj. Several clashes have occurred, culminating in the murder of Volunteer Party Joint Convener Md. Mamun Hossain (40), who was shot and killed. The incident has created tension in the East Lalpur (Pakistan Ghat) railway line area and its surroundings.
Reports indicate that Md. Mamun Hossain, Joint Convener of the Fatullah Thana Swechchhasebak Dal, was shot in the right eye at gunpoint by assailants. The murder took place at around 4:30 am on Thursday on the railway track in East Lalpur, Fatullah. Mamun was the son of deceased Soman Ali Bepari and was involved in the brick, sand, and cement business.
According to Azad Mia, Manager of Mamun’s business, Mamun had finished loading and unloading materials at 2:00 AM and returned home. However, he came back to his business premises at around 4:30 AM. Suddenly, multiple gunshots were heard. When they rushed to the scene, they found Mamun lying on the ground, while two young men (approximately 26-28 years old) fled. Mamun was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The victim’s family alleges that Akhtar and Suman, sons of Awami League leader Alauddin Haji, were responsible for the murder. They had reportedly been threatening Mamun for several months.
Mamun’s elder brother, Amjad Hossain, stated that Mamun was asleep at home when unidentified individuals called him outside and took him near his business establishment, “Maa-Babar Doa.” There, he was shot and killed.
Fatullah Model Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Mia confirmed that Mamun was summoned via phone and shot at 4:30 AM. The perpetrators placed a gun against his right eye and pulled the trigger before fleeing.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shariful Islam of Fatullah Model Police Station stated that police were dispatched to the scene, and multiple teams were working to identify and arrest the killers.
