Chittagong Bureau

The Coast Guard has arrested 1 yaba trader with 24,000 pieces of Yaba, 44,000 taka and 2 vehicles in Karnaphuli, Chittagong.

Lieutenant Commander Md. Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, gave this information on Friday morning.

Bangladesh Coast Guard has been conducting regular operations to ensure the security of the coastal/river bank areas as well as to control smuggling and narcotics. In continuation of this, a special operation was conducted in the area adjacent to the Karnaphuli Tunnel by the BCG Base Chittagong under the East Zone of the Bangladesh Coast Guard at 2 pm on Thursday.

When the movement of the two vehicles seemed suspicious during the operation, the Coast Guard operation team signaled the two vehicles to stop. Disobeying the signal, the two cars tried to speed up and escape. The Coast Guard operation team chased the two cars and was able to arrest a Yaba smuggler named Md. Absar Kamal (34) from one of the two cars. The driver of the other car left the car in front of a temple in Patiya Paikpara area and fled.

Later, 24,000 pieces of Yaba and 44,000 taka in cash were seized from the two seized cars.

The seized car, Yaba, cash and the arrested accused were handed over to Patenga Police Station for further legal action.
