Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman says: N’ganj was made capital of terrorism, where is that godfather Shamim Osman

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj

The people of Narayanganj have been suffering for decades. Narayanganj was turned into the capital of terrorism. Where is that godfather Shamim Osman now? In a massive public gathering in Narayanganj, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman referred to Shamim Osman as the "godfather" of Narayanganj.

Addressing the people of Narayanganj, he said, “Where is the godfather of Narayanganj? He once declared that our Ameer was not allowed to enter the city and even put up signboards to that effect.”

On Friday (February 7) at 11:30 AM, he made these remarks at a public gathering at Osmani Municipal Stadium in Isdair, Narayanganj. The event was organized by the district and metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said, “That godfather once told the DC and SP in a meeting, ‘File a case against me in advance; I want to kill Professor Ghulam Azam.’ Professor Ghulam Azam endured immense persecution and ultimately passed away, but the godfather never got the opportunity to kill him.”

He continued, “Arrogance is not a good thing. One has to face a dire fate even in this world. Where is that godfather today? The people of Narayanganj have suffered for decades. Narayanganj was turned into the capital of terrorism. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the people.”

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further stated, “After independence, if any member of our party has ever violated anyone’s dignity, looted property, or engaged in corruption—let us know, and we will ensure justice. InshaAllah, no such accusations exist against Jamaat-e-Islami members, nor will they ever. We are fighting for the establishment of a just society. We seek the love of the people of Narayanganj; we seek a place in their hearts. If we commit any wrongdoing, hold us accountable.”

He emphasized, “The students’ battle is not over yet. We want to assure the students that Jamaat is committed to realizing their dreams. We will fight together. We will hand over the future of Bangladesh to the students. We will stand behind them. The students will lead the country forward. Bangladesh will become a humane nation.”

The event was also attended by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Executive Council Member Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Dhaka Metropolitan South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, former Narayanganj Metropolitan Ameer Maulana Moinuddin Ahmed, District Ameer Mominul Haque Sarkar, and Metropolitan Ameer Muhammad Abdul Jabbar, along with various other leaders and activists.

After nearly four decades, Jamaat-e-Islami successfully held a public gathering in an open field in Narayanganj, filling the venue to capacity before the scheduled time.

On Friday (February 7) from 8:00 AM, the event began at Osmani Municipal Stadium in Isdair. From early morning, leaders and activists started arriving at the venue, eventually overflowing beyond the stadium.

Speaking to Jamaat activists, it was learned that since Narayanganj became separate from Dhaka in 1984, the party had never held a public gathering in an open field until now. Several attempts were made, but obstacles prevented them from doing so. In 2002, the then-Jamaat Ameer Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami attended a workers' meeting at Narayanganj Club, but no public gathering was allowed. Earlier, when former Jamaat Ameer Professor Ghulam Azam planned to visit Narayanganj, he was reportedly obstructed by Shamim Osman.
