Businessman alleges land grabbing attempt in Faridpur

 Md. Mijanur Rahman Chowdhury, a prominent businessman and resident of the Goalchamat Wireless Para area in Faridpur town, held a press conference today alleging a dynamic attempt to unlawfully grab his paternal land.

The press conference was held at the conference room of the Faridpur Press Club on Sunday noon.

In a written statement, Mijanur Rahman Chowdhury alleged that  he is the legitimate owner of 24 decimals of land under S.A. Khatian/Plot Nos. 1201 and 1203 in Goalchamat Mouza. He purchased the land in 2009 and subsequently transferred it within his family and business entities before reinstating the ownership under his name. He asserted that he and his predecessors have been peacefully possessing the property for years while regularly clearing all government land development taxes.

Chowdhury alleged that a civil lawsuit concerning the ownership of the property is currently pending in court between him and the brothers of VP Yusuf. However, bypassing the legal jurisdiction and before any court verdict could be delivered, a group of 30 to 45 miscreants forcefully entered his property on the afternoon of June 17. The attackers vandalized the boundary wall, tore down the tin fences, cut down several trees, and looted the corrugated tin sheets from the site.

The businessman further claimed during the briefing that the opposition party is utilizing political influence and muscle power to occupy his lawful estate, effectively barring him from using his own property. He noted that despite lodging multiple written complaints with the local administration, law enforcement agencies, and relevant government departments, no effective measures have been taken so far.

Members of the Faridpur Press Club along with journalists representing various print, electronic, and online media outlets were present at the briefing.
