​Coast Guard holds views-exchange, awareness meet with fishermen in Patharghata

Fishermen assured of security, proper steps to address grievances
The Bangladesh Coast Guard organized a views-exchange meeting and public awareness campaign with local fishermen in Patharghata, Barguna, aimed at ensuring maritime safety and improving their socio-economic well-being.

The event was conducted from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Sunday at Patharghata Station under the South Zone of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

In a press release issued on Sunday afternoon by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Suzan stated that the discussion focused on the overall welfare of the fishing community, maritime security, and measures to prevent piracy and abductions at sea.

Furthermore, fishermen were given guidelines regarding legal fishing practices, compliance with government regulations, and necessary precautionary measures to be taken during natural disasters.

During the open discussion, fishermen raised various challenges and prospects concerning their livelihood. Coast Guard officials assured them that necessary steps would be taken to address their grievances through coordination with the relevant authorities.

The meeting was attended by senior Coast Guard officials alongside the Upazila Fisheries Officer.

The press release said that since its inception, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been playing a pivotal role in ensuring public safety, maintaining law and order, managing disasters, and contributing to socio-economic development in coastal and riverine regions.
