Anti-discrimination Student Mov Press Confce: Cancellation of attachment of police officers to Rangpur Metro who involved in killings demanded
Rangpur Correspondent
Rangpur Metropolitan leaders of the Anti-discrimination student movement have demanded cancellation of attachment of police officers to the Rangpur Metropolitan Police, alleging that they were directly involved in the indiscriminate shooting, brutal attacks and torture of the students and the public during the mass uprising of 2024.
The metropolitan leaders of the Anti-discrimination student movement made this demand at a press conference organized at a community center in the city. At the press conference, Imtiaz Ahmed Imti, convener of the Anti-discrimination student movement Rangpur Metropolitan Committee, said that ADC Govinda Chandra was the responsible for the July mass uprising in the capital's Motijheel area.
He caused bloodshed by indiscriminate attacks and torture on the students and the public in that area during the mass uprising. The officer who carried out the brutal attack was recently transferred to the Rangpur Metropolitan Police.
Another police officer, Montasir Billah, was a member of the Chhatra League. He also participated in the attacks and torture during the uprising. He has also been transferred to Rangpur. We had urged these two officers to cancel their affiliation in Rangpur, but they did not do so. We want their affiliation to be canceled immediately. He also said that not only those two officers, but another additional DIG named Masud Ahmed from the Rangpur DIG office has also attacked students and the public. He should also be removed from here. They alleged that Rangpur has become a sanctuary for criminals. These officers accused of attacking students and the public should be withdrawn immediately. We are drawing the government's attention to this matter.
At that time, he demanded that the current interim government fulfill the aspirations of the people by allocating a special budget for the development of Rangpur, improving the rail communication system, increasing the number of trains, starting gas-based factories and creating employment, and repairing the Shyamasundari Canal.
At the press conference, he called on the government to bring government officials involved in various irregularities and corruption, including stopping NESCO's controversial prepaid meter installation program in Rangpur, to justice.
Among others, Motawakkil Billah Shah Fakir, joint convener of the Rangpur Metropolitan Committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, member secretary Rahmat Ali, joint member secretary Rajimuzzaman Hridoy, and others were present at the press conference.
