DU INFS, History Department freshers' reception held

Dhaka University Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (INFS) 27th batch freshman and 21st batch farewell reception and History Department 1st year undergraduate program students freshman and cultural program was held on Tuesday.

The induction and farewell reception of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science was held at the Institute Auditorium. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed was present as the chief guest on the occasion. Director of the institute Prof. Sayedul Arefin presided over the event retired professor Dr. M. Akhtaruzzaman, Professor Dr. Md. Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan and Professor Dr. Sharmin Rumi Alim spoke.

History department freshman and cultural programs are held in Student-Teacher Center Auditorium. Departmental Chairman Prof. Dr. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Ashfaq Hossain presided over the event. Mamun Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Mohammad Chiddikur Rahman Khan and retired professor Syed Anwar Hossain spoke.

Associate Professor Mithun Kumar Saha conducted the program. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed highlighted the unique contribution of Dhaka University in various fields including education, research, sports, culture and said that parents send their children to study in this university with deep trust and faith. Students also get admission in this university through highly competitive examination with many dreams. To fulfill this dream, students need to set the right goals and be responsible.

The Dhaka University family will always support the dreams of students and parents with utmost sincerity. He called on the students to develop themselves as efficient human resources by taking advantage of various opportunities including sports and co-curricular activities, taking knowledge and guidance from the renowned teachers and researchers of the university, making proper use of the library and laboratories.

It is to be noted that the students who obtained the highest CGPA in the graduation (honors) and masters examinations of 2023 were awarded at the freshman admission ceremony of the history department. Honorable students are Rupam Ruddor who got 1st position in Graduation (Honours) category, Shiuli Mollah who got 2nd position and Bushra Binte Alam who got 3rd position jointly and Md. Rahim Mia. The students who secured the highest CGPA in all three groups in the Masters category were – Farzana Parveen, Pooja Das and Suraiya Yasmin Souchna.

Besides, two 2nd year students of the department were awarded for their achievements in sports. They are Dia Siddiqui, a player of the national archery team representing Bangladesh at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, and Nilufa Yasmin Neela, a player of the national women's football team participating in the 7th SAFF Women's Championship-2024. In the 2nd phase of the program, an interesting cultural program was performed.
