Citizen dialogue by Sylhet Press Club : Corruption of Tk 7, 000 lakh crores committed : Dr Enamul Haque

White Paper Preparation Committee Member and eminent economist Prof Dr. AK Enamul Haque has commented that corruption of Tk 7,000 lakh crores has occurred in the development budget alone from 2010 to 2023.He made this comment at a citizen dialogue on reform, national unity and thought initiated by Sylhet Press Club, a centenary journalism memorial organization in Sylhet, on Saturday.

At the event organized at Kabi Nazrul Auditorium in Rikabi Bazar in the city, he also said that Tk 17,000 lakh crores have been spent on the development budget from 2010 to 2023-24. Out of this, Tk 7,000 lakh crores have been corrupted. This money has gone somewhere or the other.

This money did not go only to politicians; the share of government bureaucrats is even greater. In this context, he also said that earlier people used to take bribes under the table. However, in the last 15 years, the table has been removed for bribery.

With Sylhet Press Club President Ikramul Kabir in the chair, and moderated by General Secretary Mohammad Sirajul Islam, the main article was presented by Professor Dr. Kamal Ahmed Chowdhury, former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.

The event was attended by Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Mohammad Fakhrul Islam, former President of Sylhet District Bar Association Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration of Leading University Professor Dr. Bashir Ahmed Bhuiyan, former president of Sylhet Press Club Iqbal Siddiqui, acting president of Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry Faiz Hasan Ferdous, central organizing secretary of Islamic Movement Advocate Mahmudul Hasan, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Faiz Ahmed, coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Delwar Hossain Shishir, coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Teachers Alliance Professor Farid Ahmed, brother of Shaheed Mostaq Ahmed of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Sohel Ahmed, president of Women for Women Rights Samia Begum Chowdhury, deacon of Sylhet Presbyterian Church Institute Nijhum Sangma, deputy director of Imam Training Academy Sylhet Shah Md. Nazrul Islam, among others.

The chief guest of the program also said, when talking about the country's education, I doubt whether there is a consensus on copying. Because fathers buy exam questions and give them to their sons. This is the current situation of our country.

In the main article, Prof Dr. Kamal Ahmed Chowdhury said that the political, religious and economic structures of the country have been destroyed in the last few years. After the uprising of the students and the masses, the interim government came to power. Later, the Reform Commission was formed as part of the state reform.

Other speakers said that first of all, it was necessary to form an Education Reform Commission.
