Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan has described the Dhaka University Press as a historically valuable rare asset.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan has described the Dhaka University Press as a historically valuable rare asset.
He noted that students from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, the Department of Printing and Publication Studies, and other departments can receive hands-on training at the press.
The press can play an effective role in education and research by integrating theoretical and practical knowledge. He emphasized the importance of establishing close collaboration between the university press and teachers, researchers, and students from various departments. He made these remarks as the chief guest during a program organized on Monday while visiting the Dhaka University Press.
The event, presided over by the Acting Press Manager S.M. Bipash Anwar, was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha as a special guest.
Highlighting the international significance of the university press, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan stated that research publications and journals of renowned universities worldwide are published through such presses, which hold a distinct prestige. He mentioned that the Dhaka University Press was established in 1950. As an old institution, it houses several historical and rare pieces of equipment, some of which are still operational, while others are preserved. He added that initiatives have been taken to make the press more effective and modernized under a comprehensive plan. Instead of relying solely on government support, these initiatives will be implemented by creating an independent fund with the cooperation of stakeholders. He called upon everyone to work collectively from their respective positions to achieve this goal.
During the event, 27 retired, 34 promoted, and 18 newly appointed officers and employees of the press were honored.
