
Illegal shrimp fry worth about Tk 2 cr seized in Louhajang

In a joint operation by the Office of the Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer and the Coast Guard, 2.15 million (21.5 lakh) pieces of illegal shrimp fry were seized in Louhajang, Munshiganj. The operation took place around 2:00 AM on Monday near the Padma Bridge toll plaza.
The estimated market value of the seized fry is approximately Tk 1.75 crore.
According to Md. Rezaul Islam, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer of Louhajang, the joint operation was conducted in collaboration with the Padma Bridge Coast Guard Contingent Office and the Fisheries Office around 2:00 AM on Monday night. During the operation, a truck carrying 43 drums containing 2.15 million illegal shrimp fry from Cox’s Bazar en route to Satkhira was intercepted. The estimated value of the fry was nearly Tk 2 crore.
The joint team searched the truck and confiscated the fry. However, the actual owner of the fry could not be identified, and therefore no one was arrested. The seized fry were later released into the Padma River.
