UGC, all university activities to come under automation
Staff Reporter
The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has taken the initiative to develop UGC-ERP software to bring all activities of the UGC and the country’s universities under automation.
Under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project, this software will be developed soon. It will include information on university academics, research, accreditation, project proposals, financial management, and profiles, along with various activities of the UGC.
This information was shared during a day-long workshop on the ERP software architecture and design held at the UGC on Monday.
In his speech as the chief guest, UGC Chairman Prof Dr. S M A Faiz stated that for the sake of efficient management, it is necessary to bring the activities of the country’s universities and the UGC under a unified platform. For this, an integrated software is required. He commented that if this initiative is successfully implemented, an effective system for information management in higher education institutions will be established. This will save time and money and make it easier to access information about universities and the UGC.
In his speech as the special guest, UGC Member Professor Tanjimuddin Khan said that such software is essential to ensure transparency and accountability in the operations of higher education institutions. Accurate information and unrestricted access to data are necessary for proper university management. Once this software is implemented, it will be possible to determine the actual number of manpower, manpower demand, the number of departments, the necessity of opening new departments, and to prepare budgets according to demand.
The workshop was chaired by UGC Member Prof Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman. During the event, UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Director of the Information and Communication Technology Division Md. Omar Farukh, HEAT Project Director Prof Dr. Asaduzzaman, and Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) Mohammad Taurit delivered speeches.
