Jagannath University (JnU) officially commenced classes for the undergraduate (Honours) and BBA first-year students of the 2024–25 academic session on Sunday. 

On the occasion, various faculties, departments, and institutes warmly welcomed the new students in a festive and vibrant atmosphere.

The announcement regarding the start of classes was issued on June 2 through an office order signed by the Acting Registrar, Professor Dr. Md. Sheikh Gias Uddin. He remarked, “For new students, this marks the first step in their university journey. We want them to build their futures through study and research from the very beginning. To ensure smooth academic activities, all concerned departments and offices have been instructed to make maximum preparations.”

Vice-Chancellor of JnU, Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, also welcomed the new students, stating, “We extend a warm welcome to our students and hope they will prepare for their future through regular study, research, and moral development. Our aim is to ensure a creative and dynamic learning environment for them.”

This year, Jagannath University conducted its admission test independently, departing from the cluster admission system followed by other public universities. About 193,634 students applied to sit for the admission test, of which 40,000 were selected to participate. The entrance exams for 2,815 available seats were held across five units (A, B, C, D, and E) from January 31 to February 28.

On the first day of class, an air of excitement and enthusiasm prevailed across the campus. Faria Akter, a first-year student from the Department of Chemistry under the Faculty of Science, shared her thoughts: “Getting admitted to Jagannath University is a matter of pride for me. Today marks the beginning of my university life, and I am eager to learn many new things in this chapter.”

To support the successful start of the academic year, necessary preparations were completed across all departments and faculties. Offices including the Examination Controller, Accounts, Development, and ICT divisions also worked in coordination to ensure a smooth transition.

With the beginning of this new academic session, students at Jagannath University step into a significant phase of their educational journey. The university administration hopes that the newcomers will seize this opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills and contribute to the nation's development.
