
Prof Kazi Motahar Hossain’s 128th birth anniv celebrated at DU with awards, scholarships

The 128th birth anniversary of Jnan Tapas (Sage of Knowledge) National Professor Kazi Motahar Hossain was celebrated at TSC auditorium of the University of Dhaka with a commemorative lecture and an award-giving ceremony.
The event was jointly organized by the Department of Statistics, the Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT), and the Kazi Motahar Hossain Foundation.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM, honoured the memory of the distinguished academic and statistician, who founded both the Department of Statistics and the ISRT at Dhaka University. The celebration featured a keynote lecture titled “Kazi Motahar Hossain Through the Ages”, delivered by Dr. Bhishma Dev Chowdhury.
As part of the occasion, scholarships and the Kazi Motahar Hossain Medals were awarded to students who topped the B.S. (Honors) and M.S. programs between the academic years 2017 and 2023.
The Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, Ph.D., attended the event as chief guest. Also present were Professor Abdul Majed, President of the Kazi Motahar Hossain Foundation; Professor Dr. Zafar Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Department of Statistics; and Kazi Rawnak Hossain, General Secretary of the Foundation, who conducted the program.
University officials, faculty members, students, and family members of Professor Kazi Motahar Hossain attended the event to honor his legacy and lifelong contributions to the field of statistics and education in Bangladesh.
