China-Bangladesh joint cooperation : MoU signed between SCC, Chinese company for feasibility study of 50 million liter capacity water treatment plant
Sylhet Bureau
Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed daily 50 million liter capacity water treatment plant project at Baish Tila Mouza in Sylhet.
The people of Sylhet are hopeful that under China-Bangladesh joint cooperation, the water treatment plant project will soon see the light of day.
The MoU was signed on Thursday in Dhaka in the presence of Local Government Secretary Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi.
On behalf of Sylhet City Corporation, the Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rezai Rafine Sarkar signed the MoU, while Gong Chengqing, Vice President of the South Asia and Asia-Pacific Region of China's Stecol Corporation, signed on behalf of the Chinese company.
Under this MoU, China's Stecol Corporation will carry out the feasibility study of the proposed 50 million liter per day water treatment plant project at Baish Tila Mouza with its own funding.
After the signing ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Sylhet City Corporation, Rezai Rafine Sarkar, said that currently the city's capacity fulfills less than 50% of Sylhet City's water demand. Therefore, to meet the growing demand for pure water, it is necessary to launch a large water treatment plant as soon as possible. From that perspective, this MoU has been signed.
Thanking everyone involved in facilitating the implementation of the MoU, Rezai Rafine Sarkar said that with the cooperation of the Chinese and Bangladeshi governments, the city dwellers hope this project will one day see the light of day.
