BNP leader inhumanly tortured 12-yr-old child, his mother by accusing them of theft

Upazila BNP General Secretary and Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Hafizur Rahman Chunnu has been accused of inhumanely torturing a child named Jisan (12) and his mother Nazma Begum (35) in Kalapara, Patuakhali, on the pretext of stealing a wallet. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The incident took place on Friday night in Gamurbunia village of Chakamaiya union of the upazila. The abused children are the son of the deceased Bachchu Hawlader of the village and his wife. After the inhuman torture, they did not leave their house for 4 long days in fear. Later, on Tuesday (September 22) morning, locals rescued them and admitted them to Kalapara Hospital for treatment.
The victim's mother, Nazma Begum, said that her husband, Bachchu Howlader, died a year and a half ago. Before he died, he gave one lakh taka to the upazila BNP general secretary, Chunnu's younger brother Abdul Hai, by mortgaging 4 bighas of land. However, there was no written proof of the transaction. After her husband's death, she asked for a written document of the money several times. Chunnu and his brother Abdul Hai were angry about this. As their road was muddy due to rain, they used to walk past Chunnu's house. Last Friday, Chunnu and his brother called his son Jisan and him to their house and beat him with bamboo sticks, accusing him of stealing their wallet.
Nazma Begum alleged that they were furious when she asked for written proof of taking money to mortgage her land and beat her severely.
In this regard, Kalapara Upazila BNP General Secretary Hafizur Rahman Chunnu said, "That boy is his relative. He is a thief and is being groomed as a national thief."
Kalapara Police Station OC Md. Nazrul Islam said he was not aware of the incident. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
