Bad weather halts launch, sea-truck movement on 10 Bhola routes
Bhola Correspondent
Authorities have suspended passenger launch and sea-truck services on 10 internal routes, including Bhola-Lakshmipur and Monpura-Dhaka due to adverse weather.
Still, many passengers continue to travel risking their lives by unauthorised trawlers and speedboats defying the ban.
Under the influence of the monsoon, rough weather has once again gripped the coastal island district of Bhola, prompting the authorities to issue local cautionary signal number 3 for the maritime ports and the signal-1 for the river ports.
Water pressure in the Meghna River rose on Tuesday morning, submerging the Ilisha ferry terminal during high tide. As a result, vehicle movement on and off the ferry was disrupted, causing delays.
Md Jasim Uddin, transport inspector of the BIWTA at Bhola River Port, said services on 10 river routes have been halted in light of the warnings.
Ferry operations on the Bhola-Ilisha route remain normal.
