A case has been filed against 405 people including former Awami League MP Shawkat Hachanur Rahman Rimon in Patharghata on charges of assault on BNP Executive Committee Vice -chairman Nurul Islam Moni.

On Thursday (October 3), Nurul Islam Moni's elder brother's son Solaiman Hawladar filed the case as the plaintiff in Patharghata Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.

According to the source of the case, on September 4, 2022, Vice Chairman of BNP Executive Committee, former President of Barguna District BNP and former Member of Parliament of Patharghata-Bamna-Betagi Nurul Islam Moni was attacked by Awami League leaders and activists while entering his area Patharghata to visit the graves of his parents.

Hundreds of BNP leaders including Member of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni were injured. At that time, Awami League leaders set fire to about 10 motorcycles and vandalized more than 100 motorcycles and took away more than 500 motorcycles. The case was filed two years after the incident.

The lawyer of the case, Advocate Efrat Ahsan Ipu, said that Badi Solaiman's uncle Nurul Islam Moni was a three-time former Member of Parliament elected from Barguna-2 Constituency.

Currently, he is the vice chairman of the executive committee of BNP. He stayed in Dhaka and managed business and politics.

As he was a popular leader of all the people of Barguna including Patharghata when he was a Member of Parliament, the political opponents were planning to kill him from the world.

On Sunday, September 4, 2022 at around 4 pm, the plaintiff's uncle tried to come home from Dhaka to visit the graves of his parents. At that time, hundreds of people including Badi came to C&B area of Patharghata-Mathbaria regional road to advance him, then MP and A-League leaders attacked them. Hundreds of BNP leaders including Nurul Islam Moni, the plaintiff's uncle, were injured.

Abdullah Al Mamun Kazi, Joint Convener of Patharghata Municipal BNP, who was injured during the incident, said that the Awami League, under the influence of political power, is anti-social, seditious, oppresses women and has made innocent people destitute by occupying land illegally. They always created terror throughout the upazila. They attacked me at least five times and bled me. Due to the beatings, I had to put iron plates on different parts of my body. They are the ones who attacked us and jailed us for years with false cases.

Patharghata Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Bench Assistant Md. Mubin said, on Thursday afternoon, a case has been filed against 2 to 300 unknown people, including the names of 105 people. The Court directed the OC. of Patharghata Police Station to receive the FIR of the case within the next 72 hours.

Patharghata Police Station OC Mehdi Hasan said that the process of receiving the FIR of the case is underway as per the court order. Action will be taken as per the process after receiving the case.
