70,000 taka fined in anti-polythene drive in Shibganj

Two traders have been fined 70,000 taka in Shibganj, Bogura for conducting a drive against the sale and hoarding of banned polythene. Shibganj Upazila Executive Officer Tahmina Akter conducted a mobile court at Mahasthan Bazar around 11 am on Tuesday and imposed the fine.
According to mobile court sources, Mahasthan Bazar traders Zahidur Islam and Yusuf Ali were fined 20,000 taka and 50,000 taka and polythene bags were seized for selling and hoarding illegal polythene in their shops.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tahmina Akter said, "We are working to stop the sale and use of illegal polythene as per the government's instructions to protect the environment.
We are creating awareness among the general public and encouraging alternative uses. Our drive against this very harmful polythene will continue." Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hannan was present at the time.
