
Woman Injured in bear attack in Bandarban

A woman named Easter Bom (32) has been injured in a bear attack in Bandarban. The incident took place on Sunday morning in the Chimbuk Baganpara area of the Chimbuk–Nilgiri road under Tonkabati Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila. The injured Easter Bom is the wife of Pranjual Bom, a resident of Lairunpi Para in Tonkabati Union of the Sadar Upazila.
According to locals, Easter Bom was heading towards Nilgiri on a motorcycle with her husband from their home in the morning. When they reached the Chimbuk Baganpara area, a bear suddenly came out from the nearby jungle and attacked them. During the attack, Easter Bom suffered serious injuries to her waist, abdomen, and other parts of her body. Hearing their screams, nearby locals rushed to the spot, causing the bear to flee back into the forest. Later, locals rescued the injured Easter Bom and admitted her to a clinic in Bandarban town.
Easter Bom’s husband Jual Bom said that the couple was returning to their village Lairunpi Para via the main road on foot after visiting his sick younger sister at Ampupara on the Nilgiri road. Suddenly, a bear attacked them, and his wife was severely injured by the bear’s bite.
Regarding the incident, Tonkabati Union Parishad Chairman Mangyang Mro Pradeep said that Pranjual Bom was going towards Nilgiri with his wife Easter Bom on a motorcycle. At one point on the way, Easter Bom was injured in a sudden bear attack. Later, locals rescued the injured Easter Bom and brought her to Emmanuel Hospital in town, where she received initial treatment and then returned home. She is currently in stable condition.
