
Abductor arrested with firearms, ammunition in Teknaf

An abductor was arrested with firearms and ammunition in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, as he attempted to flee after releasing a hostage in the face of a police operation.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday at Konarpara in Hnila Union of Teknaf Upazila, according to Muhammad Gias Uddin, OC of Teknaf Police Station.
The detainee, Md Riduan (20), is the son of Abdus Salam from Uluchamari area under Hnila Union.
The victim, Md Faridul Ullah (43), hails from the Dakshin Alikhali area of the same union and is the son of Mohammad Syed.
OC Gias Uddin said that around 9:30 PM on Saturday night, Faridul Ullah was returning home through the farmland adjacent to Uluchamari Government Primary School when an unidentified group of armed men abducted him and took him towards a nearby hill. After hearing of the incident, the victim’s family immediately informed the police.
“Upon being notified, police launched an operation to rescue the abducted man. During the drive, with the help of technology, law enforcers managed to locate the abductors,” the OC added.
He further stated, “At one stage during the operation, the criminals, sensing the presence of police near a roadside field in Konarpara, released the hostage and attempted to flee. Police managed to detain one of them at the scene. Upon searching him, a locally-made firearm and four rounds of ammunition were recovered.”
According to police, the arrestee Riduan is a known drug trafficker and has several cases filed against him with Teknaf Police Station for involvement in narcotics trading and organized abduction.
Preparations are underway to file a case against the detainee under the relevant laws, added OC Muhammad Gias Uddin.
