Three 'KNF members' sent to jail

A Bandarban court on Thursday sent three alleged members of separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) to jail in a case filed over robberies and snatched arms from the police in April.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Maisuma Sultana gave the order after the trio was produced before the court, said Bishwajit Singh, General Register Officer (GRO) of Bandarban court.

The arrestees are – Jone Pal Bom, 27, Lal Rulal Khup Bom,50, and Jony Lusai. They all hail from Ruma Upazila.

The joint forces during a drive arrested three people in Ruma Upazila of Bandarban district on Wednesday.

The joint forces launched an extensive campaign against KNF separatists following their attack on multiple banks in Ruma and Thanchi on April 2 and 3. They looted money and weapons along with kidnapping the Sonali Bank manager, who was rescued two days later.

Five cases were filed at Ruma Police Station and three at Thanchi Police Station over the attacks.

More than 60 suspects have been arrested so far. The court has sent them to jail pending further proceedings.
