The court sentenced three accused to death in the case of the murder of an army man named Shaheen Alam in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj district on Monday noon.

District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Abu Shamim Azad announced the verdict in the presence of the two defendants. Those sentenced to death are Jiban of Ci-khola area of Siddhirganj, Sumon Mia of Mijmiji Batanpara area and Jummon Mia, son of Aslam Mia of the same area. Suman Mia is absconding among the convicted accused.

Advocate Salah Uddin Bhuiyan Sabuj, the lawyer of the plaintiff, said that the court has accepted the testimony of 14 witnesses in this case and after the judicial process, three have been found guilty and sentenced to death. Saiful Islam, the elder brother of the deceased and the plaintiff in the case, expressed satisfaction with the court's verdict and demanded its speedy execution.

According to the details of the case, on the night of January 15, 2022, Shaheen Alam, a member of the army working in Patuakhali, left for his home Chandpur after getting seven days leave. He was going to spend the night at a friend's house in Hirajhil area of Siddhirganj as it was night on the way. Robbers on the road came in an auto-rickshaw and stopped army personnel Shaheen Alam and tried to steal his wallet and mobile phone.

When he resisted, the robbers stabbed him and ran away.

Later, the locals rescued Shaheen Alam in critical condition and took him to the hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead. In this incident, the elder brother of the deceased filed a murder case at Siddhirganj police station and the police arrested the two accused.
