Sathi Das, the Executive Officer of Goalanda Upazila of Rajbari, has set an exceptional example against the trend of spending the entire amount allocated for government development projects.

He has created a unique example of transparency, accountability and good governance by returning the surplus of 9 lakh 976 taka to the government treasury even after completing the canal re-excavation project and covering all the expenses.

According to the Upazila Administration and PIO office, under the government's nationwide canal re-excavation program, the canals up to (Habil Mandal Para) and (Goaland Nazir Uddin Government Pilot High School) in Goalanda Upazila have been re-excavated.

The work of re-excavating 2 canals was implemented. A total of 2.61 kilometers of canals were re-excavated in this project, which lasted for about three months.

The total allocation for the two projects was 48 lakh 75 thousand 62 taka. After completing all the work of the project, 9 lakh 976 thousand taka was returned to the government treasury.

According to sources in the Project Implementation Officer's office, BNP's State Minister for Cultural Affairs and Rajbari-1 MP Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam regularly monitors the progress of the project. Deputy Commissioner Afroza Parveen visited the project area to inspect the quality of the work. After the inspection, they praised the quality of the work and the implementation process.

Ujanchar Union project members Russell Mahmud and Faridur Rahman said that UNO sir has regularly visited the project area and supervised the work. He has always kept an eye on ensuring that there are no irregularities anywhere.

Ujanchar Union Parishad Chairman Md. Golzar Hossain Mridha said, "The work on this project has been done with transparency. Starting from the wages of the workers, all types of bills have been paid in a proper manner."

Goalanda Upazila Executive Officer UNO Sathi Das said, "Our main goal was to ensure transparency, accountability and honesty in every step of the development work. The project has been implemented by ensuring the most correct use of government money. The surplus money at the end of the work has been deposited in the government treasury as per the rules. We have been keeping a strict watch on the project work from the beginning to ensure that there is no lapse in it."

He further said, this is the Prime Minister's priority project. The two canals in our upazila were among the first to be inaugurated in the country. We did not allow any kind of irregularities. The proper use of government money is one of the foundations of good governance. Therefore, the surplus money has been returned to the government treasury without spending a single taka more than necessary.

Administration officials believe that ensuring transparency and accountability in government development projects will not only maintain the quality of work, but also save the state's money. This initiative of Goalanda Upazila will also serve as a positive example for the implementation of other government projects in the country.
