Two-day ‘6th Interfaith Harmony Debate Festival’ begins at DU

As part of the ‘World Interfaith Harmony Week’ celebrations, the two-day ‘6th Interfaith Harmony Debate Festival’ has begun at the Dhaka University Student-Teacher Center on Sunday.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha inaugurated the festival as the chief guest. ‘World Interfaith Harmony Week’ is being celebrated as a joint initiative of the Dhaka University Center for Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue and the Department of World Religions and Culture. As part of this, the ‘World Religions Debating Club’ is organizing this debate festival. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘The sandbank of faith has risen in the current of reason, wake up everywhere!’.
The event was presided over by Asma Sultana Liza, President of the World Religions Debating Club. Professor Dr. Md. Abu Sayem, Chairman of the Department of World Religions and Culture, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ilyas, Director of the Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, spoke as special guests. The welcome address was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Muha. Abdullah Al Mahmud, Moderator of the World Religions Debating Club. Nuruddin Muhammad, General Secretary of the club, conducted the event.
Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha wished the debate festival success. Highlighting the importance of debate practice in establishing a non-discriminatory and rational society, she said that the foundation of a society established through logic and argument is much stronger. She called on the young generation to take the society on the right path through regular debate practice.
It is to be noted that students from various universities of the country are participating in this festival.
