Two children drown to death in Juri

Two children drowned in a tragic incident at Amtail village in West Juri Union of Juri upazila of Moulvibazar, on Wednesday.
Two children drowned in a tragic incident at Amtail village in West Juri Union of Juri upazila of Moulvibazar, on Wednesday.
The accident occurred around noon when they went fishing with fishing rods in a pond near their home.
The deceased were Anannya Das, 8, son of Amal Das of Amtail village, and Durjoy Das, 12, son of Narayan Das of Bhairab Bazar area in Sreemangal.
According to local sources, Durjoy had arrived in Amtail village with his family the previous day to attend the shraddha ceremony of Amal Das’s mother. Around noon on Wednesday, Anannya and Durjoy went fishing with rods in a pond beside Niloy Das’s shop near their home.
At one point, the two children accidentally fell into the water. Later, a local man who had gone to cut grass spotted them floating in the pond.
On receiving the news, local residents quickly rescued the children and took them to Juri Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared them dead.
