For the first time in Cumilla, a young man from the Babarkandi area of Homna upazila planted a peacock farm. Shah Ali ,The young entrepreneur bought a pair of peacocks in 2019 as a hobby.

Peacock's feathers and dance always fascinated him. Out of that fascination, he collected five more peacocks for later farming.

At present his farm has more than a hundred peacocks worth about 3 million rupees. He has sold peacocks for about 20 lakh Taka.

Going to the ground in Babarkandi area, it can be seen that everyone knows Shah Ali by one name when he says peacock farm. Visitors are flocking to see the peacock's feathers dancing. The peacock is flying with joy inside the farm.

Entrepreneur Shah Ali said, “My father used to farm cattle. After my father died, I started keeping peacocks. There are currently 105 peacocks on my farm, hatching from 8 peacocks. Fancy people buy and keep them. Some pairs cost up to Tk 50,000, while others cost up to Tk 100,000.

He added that a total of Tk 10 lakh has been spent so far. I have already sold peacocks for 20 lakh Taka. There is another peacock farm worth Tk. 30 lakh. It's a fancy thing, many people buy it as a hobby. I have sold a pair of big peacocks for a maximum of 1 lakh 10 thousand rupees. I want to farm peacocks on a larger scale in the future.

For those who are interested in peacock farming, Shah Ali said, peacock rearing is very easy. It's a fancy thing. Don't plan the farm before anyone makes a mistake. In the beginning, if you think you can keep a couple of pairs, then you should take the initiative to farm.

Peacocks cannot be sold from time to time, he said. People will buy it if they like. Those who are unemployed, or looking for a job, can keep peacocks as a hobby if they want. Since I have benefited, so will they. I am ready to give any advice.

Cumilla District Livestock Officer. Nazrul Islam said Shah Ali's farm is the only peacock farm in Comilla district. Efforts continue to be made to inspect his farm regularly and to cooperate overall. Besides peacocks, he is raising cows, sheep, partridges and quails.
