A video of Tangail Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta's drug money transaction has gone viral. In it, he is seen paying for liquor in his office. He is seen taking money out of his wallet and giving it to someone - such video footage has gone viral on social media.
On Tuesday (July 28), when the video went viral on social media, Facebook, a commotion broke out in Tangail and surrounding districts.
In the video, Sanjay Kumar Mahanta is seen sitting in his office discussing various drugs including Keru. At one point, he is seen taking out 3,000 taka from his wallet and handing over the money to someone to buy liquor. The recipient of the money mentions the name Keru & Company at the time.
However, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta could not be reached despite repeated attempts to contact him regarding the video. He did not even respond to messages sent on WhatsApp.
Despite repeated attempts to contact Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque by phone, she did not pick up the phone.
The general public has reacted negatively on social media regarding this. They have demanded punishment for the ADC after scrutinizing the viral video and strongly demanded a dope test for the accused. In this regard
Tarun Yusuf, general secretary of the Tangail district branch of Citizens for Good Governance (SUJON), said, "If the protector is the eater, it cannot be accepted in any way. It needs to be punished exemplary."
