​Two drug peddlers sentenced to prison in Jashore ​

A mobile court in Jashore sentenced two drug peddlers to varying terms of imprisonment alongside fines after they were caught red-handed with illicit drugs on Saturday morning.

The convicts have been identified as Al Mahmud (22), son of Nur Mohammad from Rajdharpur village in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur district, and Mohammad Raja Biswas (26), son of the late Mohammad Ali Biswas from Shekhati village in Jashore Sadar upazila.

According to SI Alok Kumar De, in-charge of the Upshahar Police Camp, a special police drive was conducted in the Shekhati area on the outskirts of the town on Saturday morning, leading to the apprehension of the two individuals along with illegal narcotics.

Following their detention, Executive Magistrates Asif Uddin and Shamiul Alam from the district administration separately convened mobile courts. Magistrate Asif Uddin sentenced Al Mahmud to 20 days of non-rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Tk 100. Meanwhile, Magistrate Shamiul Alam handed Mohammad Raja Biswas a 15-day non-rigorous prison sentence and a fine of Tk 500.

The police official confirmed that both convicts were sent to prison immediately after the pronouncement of the verdicts.
