‎Sewing machines, battery-operated vans and dry food items have been provided to five prisoners released in Bagerhat.

On Sunday morning, August 2, these items were distributed at the main gate of Bagerhat District Jail with the overall support of the District Social Services Department and Bagerhat District Jail at the initiative of the District Probation Office and the District Criminal Correction and Rehabilitation Association.

‎In the rehabilitation ceremony of prisoners released after serving long years of imprisonment, a battery-operated van was provided to Jalal Sheikh of Mongla Upazila of Bagerhat, a sewing machine was provided to Aklima Begum of Kachua Upazila, Laili Begum of Morelganj Upazila and Ayesha Akhter and Champa Rani Pal of Chitalmari Upazila.

At the ceremony, Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten, Jailer Muhammad Abu Saddat, District Probation Officer Sheikh Shahidur Rahman, along with officials from the Department of Social Services, District Jail and District Criminal Correction and Rehabilitation Association, handed over gifts to the five released prisoners.

‎Jalal Sheikh, a prisoner said, "I have been released after serving a long prison term of 23 years. Today, after my release, I got a battery-powered van. I will be able to earn an honest living by driving it. I am grateful to everyone involved for this."

‎Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten said, we should hate sin, not the sinner. Rehabilitation programs are very important to bring these released prisoners back to the mainstream of society after serving their sentences. He also said that such rehabilitation programs will continue in the future.
