Demonstrating an exemplary standard of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility in government development projects, Bhandaria UNO Md. Hasibul Hasan has returned Tk 14 lakh in unspent project funds to the national treasury following the completion of a canal re-excavation initiative.

The project involved re-excavating a 2.35-kilometer stretch comprising the Bharani canal—from Nesharuddin Secondary School to Mahajan's house—and the Charkhali Katakhal in Bhandaria upazila. Sanctioned under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief's Employment Generation Program for the Poorest (EGPP) for the 2025-26 fiscal year, the initiative carried an initial budget allocation of Tk 77 lakh as part of the Prime Minister’s priority election commitments.

Under the direct supervision of UNO Md. Hasibul Hasan, the re-excavation work was completed according to the designated design and quality standards. In addition to restoring the canals, an brick-flat soling road was constructed alongside the canal banks to alleviate long-standing commuting difficulties for local residents.

Despite funding the additional road construction, the project was completed efficiently, leaving a surplus of Tk 14 lakh from the allocated grant. Following official financial procedures, UNO Hasibul Hasan deposited the remaining funds back into the state treasury.

Local residents expressed satisfaction over the proper utilization of government funds and the construction of the walkway. Many credited the success to the combined oversight of Pirojpur-2 MP and State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manjur, alongside the integrity shown by the UNO.

Speaking on the initiative, Bhandaria UNO Md. Hasibul Hasan said, "The re-excavation of the Bharani canal and Charkhali Katakhal was carried out according to the government allocation and specifications. Considering the convenience of the local people, an brick-soling road was also constructed along the bank. After completing all tasks, the remaining Tk 14 lakh was returned to the treasury."

"The remaining funds could have been spent elsewhere, but ensuring the proper use of public money was our primary goal. Public funds must be utilized solely in the interest of the people and the welfare of the state," he added.

Lauding the initiative, Ahmed Sohel Manjur, MP for Pirojpur-2 and State Minister for Housing and Public Works, said, "Ensuring transparency, accountability, and cost efficiency in public development projects is essential.

Following the Prime Minister's directives, Bhandaria UNO Md. Hasibul Hasan has set an exemplary standard of honesty and good governance by completing the canal re-excavation project smoothly and returning Tk 14 lakh to the state treasury. Such measures to prevent the wastage of public funds are commendable and inspiring for others."
