Police have provided new information amid various questions about the murder of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and four members of his family in Rangpur.

Citing the statements given by the accused in the court, the police said that on the day of the incident, early on Friday, when Ganapati Chakraborty went to walk on the roof of his house, he saw Siddharth and Mugdha there and scolded them . Then the killers tied the towel that was near Ganapati around his neck and killed him on the roof. When his wife and daughter came to the roof after hearing the sound, they were also killed. Later, the bodies of the wife and daughter were dragged and taken to the stairs of the roof.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud gave this information based on the statements of the accused in the court at a press briefing at the Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Conference Room on Thursday morning.

He said that the statements of the accused have added some new information to the previous statement of the police regarding the murder. The reason for going to the roof of Ganapati Chakraborty's house was the convenience of consuming Yaba there. The reason for going to the roof of his house was that the roof of his neighbor Devud's house was open, there was air there. The smoke that is produced while consuming Yaba is convenient for them if there is no air. And there is a wall on the roof of Ganapati Sir's house, which cannot be seen from outside through the gap in the wall. At that time, the Police Commissioner also said that they were consuming Yaba sitting behind a water tank on the roof of the house. They did not notice that the dawn had broken. That night, the two of them consumed eight Yaba. This is Siddharth's statement. They had never consumed so much Yaba in their lives. They consumed a maximum of two Yaba at a time. Mohammad Abdul Mabud said in the briefing that in the morning, Ganapati Sir came walking on the roof and saw them and scolded them and said loudly, what are you doing here so early in the morning? Their heads were not working then. Fearing for their self-respect, Mugdha Das and Siddharth Das tied a towel around Ganapati Chakraborty's neck and strangled him to death. The police commissioner said, "While they were covering Sir's body and running away, Sir's wife and daughter probably came to the roof after hearing the noise. When they saw them screaming, Mugdha had Sir's towel in his hand and he used that towel to strangle Sir's wife's neck, while Siddharth Das used that towel to strangle Sir's daughter's neck.
