State Minister for Housing and Public Works and Pirojpur-2 MP Ahmed Sohel Manjur Sumon has been given the responsibility to oversee law and order, corruption and drug control, and good governance across Barisal, Bhola, and Jhalakathi districts.
The Cabinet Division announced the decision through a notification issued on Thursday (Aug 27), detailing the distribution of administrative oversight duties among 30 cabinet ministers, state ministers, and parliamentary whips for all 64 districts nationwide.
Under Article 55(2) of the Constitution and relevant Rules of Procedure, designated ministers and whips will advise local government departments to curb drug abuse, prevent smuggling, maintain public safety, and suppress crime.
The notification stated that the oversight initiative aims to address widespread corruption and mismanagement from past administrative periods. Overseeing leaders are instructed to ensure transparent execution of state development initiatives, poverty alleviation efforts, employment generation, and social security programs, alongside reviewing public welfare activities directly in district-level meetings.
