Drug offender jailed for two months in Khetlal mobile court

Khetlal (Joypurhat) Correspondent

A mobile court in Khetlal sentenced a repeat offender to two months' rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 2,000 during an anti-drug operation conducted by the District Narcotics Control Department on Thursday (August 27).

The convict, Nur Alam (30), son of late Nejam Uddin from Malipara village in Khetlal municipality, was arrested during an afternoon raid in the area.

Following the arrest, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Zakir Munshi conducted the mobile court (Case No. 57M/26) under Section 36(5) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. The court handed down the two-month sentence alongside the Tk 2,000 fine, ordering an additional seven days of rigorous imprisonment if the fine remains unpaid.

Authorities confirmed that Nur Alam is a repeat offender who was previously convicted and served a one-month jail term in a separate drug-related incident in the same locality.
