Rampal Upazila Imam Samity and Towhidi Janata have organized a protest march and rally demanding ban on Jatrapala, gambling, lottery and other anti-social activities in the name of a month-long Ananda Mela organized by Rampal Press Club at the Balur ground of Shuvo Enterprise in the Gonai Bridge area of Rampal, Bagerhat.

On Wednesday afternoon, a protest march was taken out from Ransen intersection in Ujalkur union of the upazila. The procession circled important roads and joined the protest rally at the bus stand in Failahat.

The protest rally, chaired by Upazila Imam Samity President Maulana Nurul Islam and moderated by General Secretary Hafez Qari Mahbubur Rahman, was attended by Upazila Jamaat Islami Ameer Mallik Abdul Hai, General Secretary Maulana Jihaduzzaman, District Imam Samity member Qari Miraj Mahmud, among others.

It is mentionable that that on January 7, a memorandum was submitted to the Bagerhat District Commissioner demanding the ban on Jatrapala and gambling events at the initiative of the Imam Samity. In the memorandum, they drew the attention of the administration to immediately ban Jatrapala and gambling events.

When they tried to contact Rampal Press Club President Fakir Atiar Rahman in this regard, his mobile phone was found switched off.

In this regard, Press Club General Secretary Md. Shahjalal Gazi said that using the name of Rampal Press Club, the club president Fakir Atiar Rahman organized such an event without informing anyone. None of us are aware of this. We want such anti-social activities to be stopped.

Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Kamrul Hasan said in this regard, the district administration has not given permission for a month-long Ananda Mela anywhere in Rampal. I have received a memorandum from the Upazila Imam Samiti. Legal action will be taken if anyone commits a misdemeanor using the name of the district administration.
