Renowned orthopedic, trauma, and spine surgeon Professor Dr. A.S.M. Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury has currently been serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at International Medical College and Hospital (IMCH) in Gazipur, along with his recent appointment as Principal of the institution. He previously served as Principal of Jamalpur Medical College.

Born in Balithuba East Union under Faridganj Upazila in Chandpur district, Dr. Chowdhury passed his SSC examination from Hassan Ali Government High School in Chandpur in 1979 and HSC from Dhaka College in 1981. He earned his MBBS degree from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) in 1988, followed by an MS degree in Orthopedic Surgery from the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in 2007. He subsequently received advanced training in spine surgery in Singapore, alongside specialized medical training in Canada, Malaysia, Spain, and Switzerland.

Dr. Chowdhury joined the government health cadre through the 9th BCS examination in January 1991. He was promoted to Junior Consultant in 2009, Senior Consultant in 2015, Assistant Professor in 2016, and Full Professor in 2022. In December 2022, the government appointed him as Principal of Jamalpur Medical College. Following his retirement from government service, he joined IMCH and currently practices as a Consultant at Labaid Hospital in Uttara, Dhaka.

A former national-level table tennis player, Dr. Chowdhury is also an active medical researcher, having co-authored studies on orthopedic trauma treatments, including research published in May 2020 on condylar blade utilization in femoral intercondylar fracture management.
