Bangladesh records six deaths, 1,492 hospitalisations from dengue fever in a day

Six more people have died from dengue fever in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while 1,492 new patients were admitted to hospitals during the same period.
The latest deaths have raised the death toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease this year to 139, with 42 fatalities recorded in September alone.
According to a bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday, 81 of the newly admitted patients were hospitalised in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and 151 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Outside the two city corporations, 327 patients were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka Division, 178 were admitted in Barishal, 202 in Chattogram, 284 in Khulna, 80 in Mymensingh, 122 in Rajshahi, 54 in Rangpur, and 13 in Sylhet.
The DGHS said 1,304 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours.
So far this year, 48,430 people have been hospitalised with dengue, of whom 44,857 have been discharged.
The DGHS has maintained records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. The highest number of hospitalisations, 321,179, was recorded in 2023, when the country also reported a record 1,705 deaths.
More than 400 people died from dengue last year, while approximately 102,000 cases were detected.
