Manpower crisis: Medical services hampered at Sadullapur Health Complex

Health Complex faces manpower clapur Upazila Health Complex has been facing a shortage of doctors and other categories of staff for a long time.
Out of the 45 approved posts of doctors with 50 beds, 29 are vacant. The shortage of doctors and other staff is putting additional pressure on the staff. This has made it difficult to ensure the desired medical services for a large number of patients. Recently, during a visit to the hospital, it was seen that there is a long queue of patients seeking treatment in the outpatient department.
There is also pressure on patients in various wards. The 50-bed hospital is often filled with almost twice the number of beds. According to additional hospital sources, an average of 700 to 800 patient tickets are sold in the outpatient department every day due to lack of beds. Apart from this, many patients also come to the emergency department for treatment. Most of the time, about 100 patients are admitted to the hospital. Dr. Dipanbita Nas, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the hospital, said that there are 45 approved posts of doctors in the hospital. Out of these, 16 people are working. As a result, 29 posts are vacant.
Bhadra Dipanvita Das said, due to the shortage of doctors, the workload on the workers has increased a lot. A doctor has to perform multiple responsibilities at the same time. In her words, I am supposed to see patients indoors. But at the same time, I have to see patients outdoors.
A doctor has to see about 150 patients every day. There is also a shortage of necessary doctors in the hospital's gynecology, surgery, anesthesia, children, medicine, ear, nose and throat and cardiology departments.
If specialized treatment is required, patients have to go to Gaibandha District Sadar Hospital, Rangpur and other places. This is increasing the cost and suffering of treatment for poor and low-income people. According to the hospital's information, there are a total of 213 approved posts for doctors and other categories, including medical officers. Out of these, 86 posts are vacant. Apart from doctors, there is a manpower shortage in various posts including nurses, technicians, office assistants. In addition, seven out of eight approved posts for departmental doctors are vacant.
As a result, only one doctor has to handle the related responsibilities. Patients and their relatives who come from far and wide for treatment said that they have to wait for a long time to get to the hospital. Because there are no doctors in the required department, they often have to go to another hospital or private clinic after receiving primary treatment.
A patient named Saleha Kom said that they have to wait for a long time to get to the hospital for treatment. Because there are no doctors in the required department, they have to go to other places. If there were enough doctors in government hospitals, the common people would benefit a lot.
