Press conference protesting warrantless arrest in Mirsarai

A press conference was held to protest the arrest without warrant of Rahim Ullah, a resident of Sarkar Taluk area of Korerhat Union No. 1 of Zorarganj Police Station in Mirsarai Upazila.
Addressing a press conference at a restaurant in Karerhat at 11 am on Saturday. Karerhat resident Alim Ullah Faruk alleged that his younger brother Rahim Ullah was forcibly taken from his house around 4 pm on October 3 (Friday) by some people, including people in police uniforms and plain clothes.
He told the press conference that that afternoon, about 16-17 people came to their house in a high-speed microbus and a CNG auto-rickshaw. Without introducing themselves, they handcuffed Rahim Ullah and took him to the car. When his mother and sister-in-law asked why, the people told
"He is being taken to the police station for questioning regarding the theft of two motorcycles yesterday."
Alim Ullah Farooq said,
When the family members contacted Zorarganj Police Station after the incident, the police said that no one had been brought from Karerhat. After a while, they called Sitakunda Model Police Station and were informed that Rahim Ullah was there.
"Despite repeated attempts to wait outside the police station from 8pm to 12:30am, we were not allowed to meet Rahim Ullah. We tried to contact Sitakunda Police Station SI Aminul Islam by phone several times, but he did not meet us and told us to wait, saying he was busy."
The complainant further said that the duty officer of the police station later said that a theft case had been registered in the name of Rahim Ullah, but no evidence was shown. Alim Ullah Faruk claimed, “SI Aminul told us that no evidence was found, to meet the OC in the morning. Later, he indicated that the OC would have to pay the money.
"We respect the law, but taking them out of their homes without a warrant or evidence is completely illegal," Farooq said. "I urge the administration to conduct an impartial investigation and provide legal protection to ensure the safety of the family.
Sitakunda Police Station OC Mojibur Rahman said that he was detained and interrogated based on specific allegations. Later, he was sent to the Chittagong Magistrate's Court.
