Press briefing by SP Seven arrested in robbery at Additional Secretary’s residence, looted weapons recovered in Munshiganj

Seven members of a robbery gang have been arrested in connection with a robbery at the residence of an Additional Secretary in Shibarampur, Srinagar, Munshiganj. Police recovered stolen goods, including cash and gold ornaments, as well as weapons used in the crime.

The information was disclosed during a press briefing held by the Superintendent of Police (SP) on Saturday.

At the briefing in the district SP's conference room, it was revealed that on January 5th at around 2:45 a.m., 10–12 robbers broke into the house of the plaintiff, Rowshan Ara. They forced open the doors, restrained the plaintiff by tying her hands and mouth, and threatened her minor daughter with sharp weapons. The gang looted gold ornaments and cash from a locker in the house. They also raided the adjoining building belonging to Rowshan Ara’s cousin, Rezanur Rahman Ratan, where they similarly held the residents hostage at knifepoint and looted cash, gold ornaments, and mobile phones.

The next day, on January 6th, Rowshan Ara filed a case under sections 395/397 of the Penal Code at Srinagar Police Station (Case No. 10).

Under the directives of Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, a special team was formed comprising officers and forces from Srinagar Police Station and the Munshiganj District Detective Branch. Using advanced technology and intelligence information, the team conducted operations across various areas of Dhaka and Narayanganj and arrested seven members of the robbery gang. During the operation, 5 tolas (approximately 58.33 grams) of gold in melted form and Tk 55,000 in cash were recovered.

Arrested individuals include: Md. Rubel Hossain (37), son of late Khalek Howlader, Muladi Police Station, Barishal, Uzzal Das (48), son of late Radheshyam, Srinagar, Munshiganj, Salauddin Chowkidar (37), son of late Liton Molla, Dohar, Dhaka, Sajib Mia (25), son of Liton Molla, Haimchar, Chandpur, Faisal (27), son of Md. Mojibur Dewan, Dohar, Dhaka, Milon (38), son of Montu Mia, Phulbari, Dinajpur and
Obaidul Haque @ Suman (27), son of Md. Abdul Mannan, Rangpur Sadar.

Recovered weapons include: one iron crowbar, three steel pipes, two knives, one wrench, one cutter, one screwdriver, one "kawali" (door-breaking lever).
