People caught dumping pickup truck full of expired govt medicines into Jamuna

Locals have detained a pickup truck driver and handed him over to the police for dumping expired government medicines into the Jamuna River in Bhuiyanpur, Tangail. He was arrested from the Gobindasi T-Road area of the upazila on Wednesday midnight.

Locals said that in the middle of the night, a loaded pickup truck was stopped by locals for suspiciously moving towards the Yamuna River along the Kala Road of Gobindasirati Road. The driver was arrested at that time, but the others fled.

Later, the pickup truck driver Azmat said that the hospital authorities had hired him to dump expired government medicines of the Ghatail Upazila Health Complex into the Yamuna River. The driver also admitted to the locals that government medicines had been dumped in the Jamuna River, including in the same way, in several places before. Later, when the locals informed the upazila administration, the police reached the spot and brought the seized pickup truck and the driver to the police station. They demanded exemplary punishment for all those involved in the incident.

IBhuiyanpur Police Station OC AKM Rezaul Karim said, "People have seized the medicines and the pickup. Later, we brought them to the police station. Higher authorities have been informed. Legal action is under process."
